Reventazon Tropical Research Station Accommodations

Guest researchers, volunteers and visitors sometimes stay in our two-bedroom cabin, which is WIFI and telephone equipped. The rustic house, which has a stove, refrigerator and living room, adjoins the RTRS office. There is bus service a few blocks away. The small rural town of Cachi is within walking distance, with several grocery stores, vegetable stands and local butchers. The cabin has an enclosed courtyard with parking availability for a single car. There are also local cabins available on surrounding properties, all within walking distance or a short drive away.
The Casona del Cafetal Restaurant, a few miles away on Lake Cachi, is famed throughout Cartago Province. Inexpensive horseback riding in the hills can be arranged with a neighboring stable on an hourly or half-day basis.
Orosi is a fifteen minute drive from RTRS. Like Cachi, it is one of Costa Rica's authentic small towns with good restaurants, hiking and some Spanish language schools. Other attractions include the village of Ujarras, home of Costa Rica's oldest Church (circa 1580), Irazu Volcano, the University of Costa Rica's Lankester Gardens and the country's provincial capital, Cartago.
Closeby, near the town of Paraiso, is Finca Cristina, an organic, shadegrown coffee farm. Tours of the farm and purchasing its fine coffee are encouraged. Cafe Cristina is produced in a manner that protects and preserves the native flora and fauna.
In August, over half of the Costa Rican population does a pilgrimage by foot to the Cartago's Nuestra Senora de los Angeles Basilica.
